BANDS ON THE RUN

A special edition of the free, weekly Kralingse Bos parkun on the occasion of LOTD festival
(presented by The Official Unofficial, delivered by Kralingse Bos parkrun)

Saturday October 19th, Kralingse Bos Rotterdam, 9:00 am, 5 km

  • All our (regular) parkrunners are asked to walk, jog, run or volunteer wearing their favorite band shirt
  • We invite LOTD’ers – audience, staff and artists – to join our free Saturday parkrun, and do the same: wear a band shirt
  • Email us which artist will be on your shirt and their song that we should add to the special Band on the (park)Run playlist: kralingsebos@parkrun.com
  • Start and finish at the location of the 1970 Holland Pop Festival, a pop and rock music festival often billed as the European answer to Woodstock. Bands included The Byrds, Rex, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, and the headlining Pink Floyd. Approximately 100,000 attended.
  • Our post-parkrun hangout café De Nachtegaal serves damn good coffee and a wide variety of pancakes for breakfast including the Full English Breakfast pancake and the Frikadel Speciaal pancake – perfect cure for your hangover

What is (Kralingse Bos) parkrun?
Parkrun is the world’s largest organisation of weekly free running events. More than 10 million people have signed up for parkrun, and 350,000 people in 23 countries around the world take part in one of the 2,500 parkruns organised every week. The concept of parkrun is simple: running, jogging or walking a 5km course in a park with others. At parkrun, the social aspect of bringing people together is just as important as getting people physically moving. parkrun is run entirely by volunteers.

First taking place on 29 February 2020, the Kralingse Bos parkrun is part of this international parkrun movement that began in London in 2004. This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Feelgood Movement. Since the start of the Kralingse Bos parkrun, more than 3,500 participants have crossed the finish line more than 11,400 times, with the help of more than 220 volunteers. Kralingse Bos parkrun contributes to getting Rotterdammers moving on a weekly basis. All info at Home | Kralingse Bos parkrun | Kralingse Bos parkrun.

CULT=US

In Cult=Us you can watch the screening of ‘How to Make a Documentary about How to Start a Band’. Despite what the title suggests, this is not a guide on starting a band or making a documentary. Driven by a deep appreciation for the Dutch alternative music scene, this film offers an intimate look into the experiences of three musicians at different stages in their careers. Berend Suijker is the bassist of Bowl, an emerging band from Utrecht. Jaap van der Velde is part of The Homesick, a Frysian band that has played an influential role in the scene for over 10 years. Cees Paris from Amsterdam left the renowned indie band Personal Trainer to fully focus on his own project, Steve French. Interwoven with the journey of first-time filmmakers, the film captures the highs of a new band’s rise, the challenges of sustaining success, and the choice to take a step back from it all.

VRIJMOED

On a small street, hidden in lush green ivy you’ll find Vrijmoed. A tiny café that’s usually frequented by jazz musicians, but during the Left of the Dial weekend it will be home to some dear friends of the festival. On Friday Vampire Boyfriend and So-Fi will team up to offer you a wide variety of new bands. Robin Kester & ATEASE have invited their favourite artists to play on Saturday.

DE LEIPERD

A brand-new club has recently opened on the banks of river Maas. On Friday it will open its doors for all Bands on a Boat sailors to get a pre or post sailing refreshment, on Saturday the legendary London club The Windmill Brixton will host De Leiperd. They invited 3 bands for you to enjoy!
